Weeks 9 and 10

March 19, 2012

As of last week we have an actual fetus; our baby is no longer an embryo.  The little pumpkin who is far from the size of a pumpkin is already growing so fast!
Last week was my Spring Break so after working half of the week I decided we needed to do something fun.  Steve and I decided to go to New Orleans for the day to be tourists.  We did a tour of homes in the Garden District, scarfed down some po-boys at Mahony's, shopped a little, took a street car to the French Quarter, shopped a little and did a quick walking history tour there before WALKING back to the Garden District.  The street car was so crowded we didn't want to endure it again.  We had a lot of fun and surprisingly I didn't poop out too early.  Sure it was depressing not to be able to get a daiquiri but I sufficed with a smoothie. The only other part of the trip that made me feel pregnant was the usually nearly intolerable smell of Bourbon Street was definitely intolerable then.
On our way back to Hattiesburg we stopped by my mom's to pick up Dash and to our surprise there was a mini family reunion going on.  My aunt Sib was down from AR so a bunch of other aunts and cousins came over to visit; many of whom Steve had yet to meet.  It was great seeing everyone and getting to share the news.  I think Steve got a little nervous about his chances of having a son when he saw the amount of girls our family produces.
On Fri and Sat we celebrated St. Patty's day at the Keg and Barrel and Irish Italian festival in town.  It was an excuse for Steve to wear his skirt kilt out.  Unfortunately for him, Dash got all of the attention with his mini version of the kilt. Despite Dash's new blotched up hair-cut earlier that day - he's still a handsome pup.

Last week was pretty busy and this week is looking the same way.  We're going back to New Orleans on Thurs to see The Lion King with mom and TIff and the next baby appt is on Friday.  Steve then has to pack to go back to TN to finish up school - bittersweet.

Changes for this week and last:

Physical:
Random naps are needed sometimes.  I think part of this is because I'm not sleeping well at night.  I just can't get comfortable, I keep waking up with neck pain.  I'm not sure if has to do with pregnancy or not.  I know the peeing in the middle of the night does though.  I've gotten a few waves of nausea but they pass pretty quickly.  My most common complaint is an acidic stomach. I feel like a constantly have heart burn, and am very limited in the foods I want to eat most of the time. The bloat is still there on and off too.

Emotional:
I think the hardest thing for me right now is thinking about Steve leaving. I know it's only 6 weeks this time but I feel like so much can happen between now and then. I've also been having a few body image freak outs with all of this bloat and my belly feeling squishy.  I just have to keep reminding myself why it's worth it.  I've also noticed myself being even more impatient lately/ irritable.  I'm trying be aware of it and not act on it but sometimes it's just easier to let the hormones do as they wish.
